DETAILS
This key is a replica of pocket watch key from the late 1700's. It would have been used to wind the watch and enable it to keep time.
I made the origInal sample of this key back in 2017, but its not until 2021 that I have felt moved to release it. For me it symbolises the preciousness of time. A reminder to make the most of what we have, to cherish the day, to live in the moment. A symbol to us that we have so much to be grateful for and to treasure the moments that we have.
It sits on an English made hammered open curb chain.
The clasp is an Albert Swivel. These historic clasps were originally designed to go on the end of pocket watch chains, to enable the wearer to bring out their watch and look at it without the attached chain getting twisted and tangled. This is the beauty of them.
It is hallmarked on the back and comes with an authenticity hallmark card, detailing the marks and their meaning.
SIZE
Key: Width 1.2cm at widest point Height: 4.1cm (including loop)
Height including clasp: 5.7mm
MATERIALS
Silver: Solid sterling silver.
Gold: Solid sterling silver - plated in responsibly sourced and ethical 24ct Gold.
My gold pieces are classed as Vermeil, this means that the base metal is Sterling Silver and there has been 2.5 microns of 24ct gold deposited on its surface. I plate my rings to 5 microns as they see more wear and tear.
Vermeil gold is the hardest wearing gold plate as it has such a high minimum deposit required. However it will still naturally fade over time, especially in high pressure areas such as where the jump ring sits on the chain. Please read how to prolong the life of your gold jewellery here. I offer a re-plating service which you can find out about here.
